Self-Compacting Screed vs Power Floated Concrete

 

Two systems, two jobs. Here is how to tell which one your project actually needs.

Choosing the right system

Self-compacting screed and power floated concrete are sometimes treated as alternatives, but they solve different problems. Choosing well comes down to the structure, the finish and the way the floor will be used.

Self-compacting screed

A self-compacting screed flows and consolidates under its own weight, so it needs no powerfloating and no late working. It is ideal on upper decks and precast planks, around underfloor heating, and in live or occupied buildings where a clean, predictable method matters.

Power floated concrete

A power floated floor is a structural in-situ slab whose surface is mechanically densified to a hard, flat, durable finish. It suits industrial and logistics floors that carry traffic, racking and abrasion and need a high flatness grade.

How to decide

If you need a fast, clean screed on a deck with minimal disruption, self-compacting is usually right. If you need a hard-wearing industrial floor surface to a defined flatness grade, power floated is the answer. On many projects both appear, in different areas.
